Match Preview: AFC Wimbledon

Action returns to Prenton Park for the first time in two weeks as Rovers look to secure an important three points in front of the SWA on Saturday afternoon.

It follows a 1-1 draw against promotion-chasers Swindon Town last week at the County Ground as an early Josh Hawkes opener was cancelled out on the half-hour mark by Jacob Wakeling before Jordan Turnbull was shown a red card deep into stoppage time.

As for AFC Wimbledon, they’ve got a similar record to Rovers in Sky Bet League Two this sea

1-0 Barrow

Tranmere claimed a third win in a row in Sky Bet League two as Micky Mellon’s side claimed a 1-0 victory over early play-off challengers Barrow on Saturday afternoon.

A strike from Josh Hawkes proved to be the difference as Rovers built on two back-to-back away wins with three points at Prenton Park.

It was a cagey affair for the first 20 minutes with neither side able to create any real chances throughout the opening exchanges.

But the first goal did finally arrive mid-way through the first

Match Preview: Barrow

Following on from a dramatic win last weekend against Walsall, Rovers’ attention now turns to a clash with Barrow at Prenton Park.

It falls after the 1-0 win on the road last time out as Elliott Nevitt swept the ball home from close range to win the game for Rovers in the 96th minute and allowed Micky Mellon’s side to leave the Bescot Stadium with all three points.

The win boosted Rovers up to within five points of the play-offs ahead of facing fourth-placed Barrow who’ve enjoyed an excellent

2-0 Colchester United

Tranmere got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Wayne Brown’s Colchester United on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Josh Hawkes and Jake Burton were the difference as Micky Mellon’s side picked up their second win in the league this season.

Tranmere started off the far better side and had Colchester’s goalkeeper tested in the opening seconds as he had to claim a low cross from Kane Hemmings.

And there was just four minutes on the clock when Rovers had O’Hara beaten in the United goal as H

Match Preview: Newcastle United

It’s a big one under the Prenton Park lights as Rovers face Premier League opposition in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

At the earliest stage possible to face a team of this quality, Rovers will face a stern test against Eddie Howe’s men who since he joined on Tyneside, have seen the entire club regalvanised particularly after a successful takeover.

Rovers managed to see off higher league opposition in the first round of the competition after drawing 2-2 with Accrington Stanley before de

Match Preview: Accrington Stanley

After two opening league games, attention turns to the Carabao Cup for Rovers this Tuesday with a trip to face League One side Accrington Stanley.

Defeats against Stevenage and Mansfield have left Micky Mellon’s side needed a win to kick-start the 22/23 season and it’s a quick turnaround from Saturday’s loss as attention moves straight onto the cup tie.

Stanley haven’t lost yet this campaign, drawing 2-2 on the opening day against Charlton Athletic before getting a 1-0 win away at Shrewsbury T

Preview: Upcoming friendlies

As we look ahead to the 2022/23 season, we’ve taken a look at the teams we are set to face our part of preparation for the new Sky Bet League Two campaign.

First up, our pre-season schedule begins on July 9th with a trip to non-league side Warrington Town.

Currently sitting in the Evo-stick Northern Premier division, Warrington had a decent season last year with them finishing just inside the play-off places.

They unfortunately missed out on promotion despite getting to the play-off final as

2-0 Oldham Athletic

It was another home victory for Micky Mellon’s side who beat Oldham Athletic 2-0 to keep the play-off chances alive until the final day.

Goals from Josh Hawkes and Kane Hemmings were the difference against the already relegated side in a professional performance from Tranmere.

Rovers dominated the opening 45 minutes, controlling possession and denying Oldham any sort of attacking threat with a very quiet first half for Joe Murphy.

Hawkes had a chance in the opening 20 minutes of the first hal
